PayDotCom vs ClickBank

PayDotCom is the new paypal-based alternative to ClickBank.
As an affiliate you can promote the products listed at
PayDotCom just like you can at ClickBank - it's simply a new
affiliate network that you can join for free and earn money
through product sales. The only major difference is that you
dont have to wait for a check to arrive in the mail... they
payout via PayPal.

As a merchant, PayDotCom has a lot of features that make it
a more appealing option than ClickBank. For starters, your
merchant account is free (unlike ClickBank which charges a
$49.95 activation fee).

And again, you dont have to wait for a check - in fact, when
one of your products sell (either directly, or through one
of your affiliates) the money goes directly into your PayPal
or Stormpay account. There's no waiting period at all.

Another perk is that you can sell an unlimited number of
products through your PayDotCom account. With ClickBank you
can only sell one product per account (unless you purchase
EasyClickMate software to get around this) - which means you
pay $49.95 to set up each product on ClickBank. PayDotCom does
have a one time $29 activation fee for multiple products, but
that one fee will allow you to set up an unlimited number of
products.

You can also sell both physical and digital products through
PayDotCom. You can even set up subscription based items, such
as a membership-based site or ongoing service. ClickBank only
allows you to list digital goods, such as info products.

It just makes sense to choose PayDotCom over ClickBank.
There are tons of reasons why... but another one of the big
differences is that PayDotCom allows you to email all of
your affiliates - ClickBank does not. That has been one of
the major problems with ClickBank - that you had no idea who
your affiliates were, and no way to contact them. Add in the
fact that you had no control over refunds, were forced to
offer a specific guarantee and had no real stats to work
with... and ClickBank was extremely restrictive. However, it
was the best option for a long time because it was one of the
only options (outside of setting up the software to manage
your own affiliate program in-house).

I signed up for a free acount myself, so I've had an opportunity
to check things out behind the scenes. It's very easy to use,
and they offer a lot of features to both the affiliate and the
merchant. I was impressed with it, myself - and am surprised I
havent heard more talk about it than I have.

I'm not sure why anyone would even choose ClickBank anymore,
now that PayDotCom is available. For years now there has been
talk about inaccurate reporting at ClickBank, "dry spells"
where no sales were reported at all in accounts that get
consistent sales otherwise, etc. With all of that in question,
and all of the features lacking that any good affiliate
program manager should offer... I see ClickBank needing to
make major changes, or phasing out altogether.

And I'll give you one more reason to sign up for a free
account, if you havent already: You can refer other people
to PayDotCom and earn $5 for every new free account that
results from your recommendation. I remember when PayPal
first appeared on the scene... and offered a $10 referral
commission. Since the accounts were free, a lot of people
signed up when they were introduced to PayPal by someone
else... and many people made hundreds - even thousands -
of dollars on those referrals!

David Christopher (ahem..Dave) has a really great blog for you Affiliate Marketers who are tired of listening to the "self proclaimed" internet marketing gurus come out with the newest and greatest (of course!) "product" that's sure to make you rich. Dave calls himself a "hidden" affiliate marketer. His definition of this is:

the one's that sit back quietly buidling up their net worth adn building multiple income streams all while laughing at all the "self titled" Internet marketing gurus that claim to hold the next "secret" to the Internet.

I love Dave's tell it like it is, I don't care who you are kind of attitude. I myself am tired of trying to keep up with the "newest and greatest secret" around and frankly, if I bought every new one that came out, I'd be flushing my commissions down the drain.

To me, the idea of affiliate marketing is to make the commission for yourself and your wants/needs. Not to spend all the commissions on the newest secret. And what's all this stuff called "secrets"...it's not a secret it everybody and their brother can buy it. Oh, I'm sorry...you have to be one of the first 400 buyers! Ah, I see so it's a semi-secret?

6 Things to Increase Your Affiliate Income

So you've signed up for affiliate programs, posted links around the net but you're still only making pocket change? Wonder what others are doing that you aren't? Below you will find 6 things that every affiliate marketer needs to increase their income.

#1 - Your own Website:

Build a website to promote the product. Make sure it has its own paid for domain name (yourproduct.com), not a free site like (yourproduct.othersitename.com). If you don't know how to build a website there are lots of places that offer simple site builders or you could choose to have someone build a site for you.

#2 - Write reviews:

You need to know your product and preferable use it yourself so that you can write honest reviews about it. What better way to promote a product and get people to believe it's great than to say you use it too? Post these reviews on your website, in your newsletters, articles and any other site you visit that gives you an opportunity to do so.

#3 - Use a Blog:

I recommend that you get a Blog and link back and forth to your website. This will allow you to create discussions on the blog about the product you are selling and list any updates to your regular website. Active Blogs are indexed quicker by many search engines than are new sites, and after the blog is indexed, the pages you have linked to the blog will also get indexed.

#4 - Write Articles:

One of the best ways to become an expert on your product is to write articles on the Internet and include a link to your website in the resource box. There is a plethora of places to submit articles and the more you write, the more people will trust what you are saying. You get more exposure, more people coming to your website; more click thorough of your affiliate link to purchase the product thus making you more money.

#5 - Put your links in your signature lines:

Never allow a sale to pass you by! If you are a member of even one forum, you need to have your affiliate link in your signature line. It's free advertisement and you never know who will see it and click through to check out your product.

#6 - Use Links instead of banners or buttons:

Due to the overwhelming amount of pop-ups and flashy text that we get each time we visit a website, people have learned to block out these as well as banners and buttons. It's much more professional looking and effective to have a text link with a few lines about the product.

If you are serious about increasing your affiliate income I suggest you at least do some further research on the things I have listed. I don't usually make posts like this in this blog but I felt the need to make a quick apology before I jumped right back into things. I've been a bad little worker since Thanksgiving. It's been a while since I've posted much here mainly because I haven't had the extra time to review any new programs/services/resources. Since all the holidays are over and it's a brand new year. It's time to start again and get right back to work. Thats one really nice thing as an affiliate marketer. Passive Income! Of course its important to stay active in promoting your products but, you can also have all your 'ducks' in a row, take some time off and STILL earn money. Isn't being an affiliate marketer great??

For every new affiliate that joins Leadhound from your link, you will automatically receive a bonus 5% second-tier revenue from all the campaign the introduced affiliate runs! The $5 bonus is credited to your account, once the new affiliates commission reaches $50.00. They pay on a monthly basis. The minimum amount that needs to be generated before $50.00 must be generated in your account before they issue a check.

AffiliateFuel.com is a program offering pay per click, lead and sale programs. They have lots of options for you to choose the right program for your campaign. They have an extensive glossary to help those who need/want to know the difference between CPC and CTR. (Nice feature!) Their website says that it can take up to 10 days to be approved to become an affiliate, however, I applied on Friday and was accepted on Monday. AffiliateFuel.com’s payment terms are officially NET 60 however; on an average they pay NET 30. Lead stats are updated hourly and click stats are updated every four hours. Occasionally they will hold special lead offers delaying stat times. These delays are posted in the ‘fill up’ station. You can add up to 100 of your own additional sites to your account. However, the additional sites will also have to be reviewed and meet their standards also.

AffiliateFuel.com is also a two-tiered program with nice benefits. By referring other webmasters/affiliates to join as publishers you will receive 5% commission based on the referrals commissions and a flat bounty of $2.00 per referral.

Like Google Adsense? Then you just may love SearchFeed.com! This is similar to Adsense because you place ads on your site that matches the content you have on that particular page. (Difference is ... you choose the keywords!) With this program you are not only paid by click-thru but also you can refer other affiliates and earn a commission from what they make! Payments can be set up to be issued via paypal or corporate check. Their visual tools make it very easy to design search boxes, category selections and results that look and feel like the rest of your website.

This is a two-tiered program from which you can refer other affiliate marketers and advertisers to join and in turn receive a commission. For referring new partners (affiliates) you receive 2 - 5 % of the net revenue generated by them. For referring new advertisers a commission of 5 - 7% of the advertisers initial deposit is earned. You can track searches, clicks and the amount of money you've earned through their online reporting tools. There are a wide range of text, banner and button links available to attract both partners and advertisers.

PrimaryAds is a Pay for Performance network that specializes in cost-per-action advertising. As an affiliate, you are assigned an affiliate manager, who will help you select the best campaigns for your business. PrimaryAds notify their affiliates of new advertisements and the network’s top-performing campaigns on a weekly basis.

Upon logging into my account the first thing I see is a note to me listing the newest campaigns available for about the past week and of course everyone’s favorite Commission To Date. (Again, we’ll have to fix those zeros!)

The first thing I did was click on Campaigns to see exactly what types of Campaigns I had available. This took me to a nice little search page that allowed me to search for campaigns by a number of features such as: Campaign, Other Criteria (ie: pay per click, pay per lead, pay per sale), Category (ie: Automotives, Magazines, Sports), and you can even choose by types/sizes of banners available (should you choose to advertise via banners).

For sake of an example I clicked on “View all” to see all of the campaigns available. On this page I was able to see all the programs available along with the campaign start date, expiration date, payout and a brief description of each campaign. (Nice and quick overview!)

Then you are able to click on a campaign that might be of some interest to you. You’ll find a more in-depth program overview and all the available links. I personally viewed quite a handful of different campaigns just for review and almost every one I clicked on had pages of available links. Banners, Button, Short Text Ads, Long Text Ads, Suggested Subject lines. (This is a big help…even if you like to write your own ads. It gives you a little more to work with.)
The statistics page will show you performance statistics on a single or on all campaigns that you are running. Simply select the campaign you wish to see (or all campaigns) and then set the date range and click the "Display Stats" button. Alternatively, you can download this information as a .csv file that can be opened in MS Excel. These statistics include information on how many impressions, clicks, leads and sales you generated. It also includes the payout amount and the total earnings for the campaign. You can also view specific banner statistics from this page. (Bravo on the stats!)

Overall I’ve been very happy with PrimaryAds. I’ve even started advertising a few campaigns already. They are also a two-tiered program so in addition to your standard commission; you will also earn 10% of all the commissions earned by your referrals. There is no delay of payment as advertisers prepay for the services. The checks are mailed monthly on the 15th of each month. The minimum check that will be sent out is $25. If you earn less than $25 in any month it will roll over into the next month.

Performics

Performics powered by ConnectCommerce is a pay per lead, pay per click and pay per sale network. Upon approval I was sent an informative email as how to set up my account to my preference and how to start my campaigns.

To start choosing campaigns I was to click into the Client Center where I was able to search for available campaigns by Category, Alphabetical Order, Merchant Shipping Capabilities and New Merchants. For sake of example I chose Free Stuff.

From here I was able to see a list of the available “free stuff” campaigns and details on each campaign. Then you can review each campaign and select the one(s) you’d like to apply for.

Once you’ve applied and have been approved you can find the links that are available for you by choosing your favorite method (ie: text, banner, button and even special promotions) to use and start promoting with them.

Payments are made once you have earned $50.00 in commissions. Note that your account is credited once Performics has received payment from the Client(s). Payments are made bi-monthly. You will receive payments by check. Or, for faster payment, sign up for Fastpay and receive your payments via electronic wire transfer (direct deposit). Fastpay is only available for businesses banking in the U.S.A.

From what I can tell Performics is not a 2 two-tiered program. If they are they don’t make it very easy to find.

For those of us that cannot afford to give away such expensive resources, we can give away other free items. The following are just a few examples of how you can cash in on the power of viral marketing. The possibilities are endless. Let you imagination run wild and be creative. Besides, you’ll soon find that being creative makes you unique and being unique can be your best marketing tool available.

--->Ebooks
Write your own Ebook and include your logo, message and website inside. Give your ebook away for free and offer others to do the same. As a matter of fact you can make your very first page about how others can give your ebook to friends and family or better yet visitors and newsletter subscribers. Offer your ebook as a free gift for signing up to a mailing list.

Affiliate marketers can write ebooks on whatever they are passionate about and include references inside with affiliate links. Example: You can write an ebook on how to take perfect pictures with digital cameras. Inside the ebook you can include affiliate links to cameras, memory cards etc.

Direct Sales representatives can use free ebooks to help their sales. Example: Let’s say you’re a sales rep for a company that sells spices, condiments and other goodies. You could write an ebook full of recipes using the ingredients you sell.

--->Reports and Mini Courses
So you don’t have enough content for an entire book. An easy solution would be to do something on a smaller scale such as offering free reports and mini courses. Let’s say you are either an affiliate or a sales rep that sells candles. You can offer a free report on candle safety. Be sure to include your website in your report. Using the example above for those who sell spices, condiments and other goodies again. Set up an autoresponder to send out a recipe every day or every other day. You can find free autoresponders online. Just do a quick search.

Make it easy for your visitors to share your website with their friends. Incorporate a “Tell A Friend” link your website and within a couple of clicks your visitors can share the good find of your site with others. You can also find free scripts online for this via a quick search.

Write articles that pertain to your product or service. Allow people to reprint your articles on their website, in their ezine, newsletter, magazine or ebooks. Include your resource box and the option for article reprints at the bottom of each article. If you have an affiliate program, let them include an affiliate ID in the resource box!

As I mentioned above, be creative! I’ve once heard about a woman who designed coloring pages and included her website address at the bottom of each page. She offered the coloring pages for free re-print and presto, juniors best artwork and her website address on mom and grandma’s refrigerator! The possibilities are endless!

When will Google catch on?

Okay, first of all don't get me wrong because I honestly do love Google Adsense. I use Adsense all over almost all of my sites and recieve decent earnings from them (of course according Google TOS I can't share exactly what that is). Google Adsense is basically top in the form of contextual ad systems and will probably remain there for a very long time.

I recieved an email from Google today about New Features they've installed. The second feature was an Invite a Friend feature. My first instinct was Wow! They've finally offered us an incentive to get new Adsense users. So, of course I rushed right on over to my account to check it out. Nope, I was wrong. They haven't figured it out yet. This is what I seen:

"Know someone who owns or manages a website? Think they'd benefit from targeted ads that complement their site and help them earn more money? Send them a link to AdSense. Just enter your friend's name and email address below."

And of course an email will be shipped right out to your friend recommending Google Adsense.

Google Adsense has to be one of the most recommended system there is. For what Google is making they could easily reward there members. Heck, give us a penny per click or even a penny per sign up.

Ahh, guess thats just my thoughts on the whole deal. I thought just maybe Google had caught on but not yet. And really, why should they? They get referred every single day for free. They don't need to reward us. Affiliate Marketers are their best free advertising they have.

This is something new and quite interesting if I can say so myself. This is a way for any average Joe to make a couple of bucks with not a whole lot of effort. Profile Ads has been set up to place a link in your Instant Messenger Profile. (Please note this is also still in it's beta stages.)

You can pick as many links as you want from the available advertising section. You can select one based on your interests, or pick one from the master list. Copy and paste it into your Instant Messenger profile. You can pick any name for the link that you'd like.

Whever someone clicks on a link in your profile, you earn $0.05. You can login to your account to see how much money you've collected.

TextLinks is about the most unique programs I've come across yet. Unique meaning I've personally never seen something set up like this. You decide whatever text link, search words or terms you wish to use. For example, let's say you're selling digital cameras. You place a text link Digital Cameras using the link code they give you. Your visitors are sent to a search engine results page using your keywords.

You are then paid Six Cents for a click on any of the results. However, your keywords must return a top bid of at least Twelve Cents. They have an online tool called the 'Bid Monkey' so you can quickly search all of their partner search engines in one spot.

If the surfer does not click on anything he simply returns to your site. There are no exit windows or advertisements to lure him away. You get the surfer right back to click on your other ads.

Their pay periods run from the 1st to the end of month. Checks are mailed no later than the last day of the following month. Minimum earnings to receive a check is $25.00. If you do not earn $25.00 in any single pay period your earnings will "roll-over" to subsequent periods until you accumulate $25.00.

This is also a two-tiered program where you can refer other affiliates and recieve 5% of their earnings.

Well, I don't always post the 'good ones' or sugar-coat everything. I have to say I can't really say too much about Websponsors.com. Meaning I can't say much good and I can't say much bad. Reason for this is my affiliate application was denied. I must tell you that this is the first program that I wasn't approved for and I guess this happens at times. I have been waiting since October 18th to have my site re-reviewed for approval. I'm not exactly sure who investigated my website in the first place but here are a few examples of why I could have been denied...

Affiliate Fuel Update

I've been working with Affiliate Fuel for only a little over 2 weeks now and I thought I'd post on how things have been going with this program. The first comment that comes to my mind is Wow, I love this program! This program by far has been one of the best that I've worked with so far. (Not that the others are bad, it's just that this one has been superb!)

A few days after I joined I recieved a phone call from Julie, my account manager. She had called to see what types of promotions I was looking for and what would best fit my 'target market'. While yes, this could be done through email I thought it was a nice gesture and so much easier to discuss things with her over the phone. After I had told Julie what exactly I was looking for and what my visitors would be interested in she had hand-picked campaigns for me to choose from and emailed me! This is what I call "Taking care of your affiliates!" She took out A LOT of leg work for me of shuffling through all the available campaigns! (Thanks Julie!)

Last weekend I recieved a card in the mail (no, I'm not talking about my email). This card was simply to thank me for my business, letting me know they appreciate me and that I could contact them for any of my needs. (Nice gesture!)

Another great feature about this company is that about once a week or so (I haven't kept track of exactly when I recieve them) I get an update in my email. This update lets me know if there are any changes to any particular campaign or if there is one ending soon. Another thing included in this email is any new offers they have available. Each of the new offers includes a quick example ad, the commission rate, an example landing page, where you can find it at Affiliate Fuel, and what forms and how many of ads are available for this particular program (ie text links, email ads, banners, buttons ect.)

If that wasn't enough information...it also lists what the offer is geared to. For example:

This offer is geared towards business opportunity seekers, as well as those who seek self improvement. The cost of this product to the end user is $39.00.

OR

This offer is geared towards sites related to entertainment and shopping. If offers such as Netflix perform well for you, we highly encourage you to test this one out.

They've also added a new feature to their website called "High Octane Offers" Here you can find five offers which are among the highest performance within the network. This tool makes it convient if you are lookig for a quick way to generate top performance.

Now, this is definitely taking care of me as an affiliate and helping me be successful and make more money. I just can't express exactly how happy I am with Affilate Fuel! (It's even prompted me to start another blog just for some of their freebie offers). I have to say I love Pay Per Lead (PPL). I can actually make $1 for offering someone to sign up for something free! Thats a sweet deal if you ask me!

Increase Online Traffic with Directory Listings

Some of the best advertising available online would be getting listed in directories. This doesn't mean submitting to search engines. If you write quality ad copies and build a quality site; the important search engines will find you.

What I am talking about is directories that you pay to be listed in. With these types of directories you pay to be listed in for a certain about of time. Some are weekly, monthly, yearly and even lifetime listings. This is also an excellent way to get those 'back links' to help you rank better in search engines.

It is a proven fact that 'back links' help increase online traffic. But, the back links that are most effective are links to your website without a return link. Take Link Exchanges for example. With Link Exchanges you request one website owner to place a link to your website on their site with a link on your website to their in return. These are effective however, most directory listings that you pay for do not require a link in return and these are a more effective form of backlinks.

Search for directories that best fit the target of your marketing program. Take a look at this list http://www.mommyshelperonline.com/why-purchase-directory-listings.html for example. If your target is for small business owners, home business owners and work at home moms then some of those directories may be of interest to you. The key is to find your market and advertise there.

Increase Online Traffic - What NOT To Do

Since everyone is so obsessed with ways to increase our website traffic (and of course we should be) people often are quick to jump at anything that might help. We are always talking about ways to increase search engine traffic. But, what about what we shouldn't do? The following I'll share a few tricks that you shouldn't be doing.

--->Do Not Buy Traffic
This is one of the oldest scams around the internet. I'm not talking about PPC programs; that's a whole other article. The ones I'm talking about are the ones that 'guarantee you' 10,000 visitors for $10.00 (just an example). Do you really think that's possible? Not only do they try to sell you visits; they also try to say you'll get such and such amount of sales. In plain words…BULL! Besides, there is NO company that can guarantee you any amount of sales. Sales depend on the demand of your product/service, price and of course your ad copy. Plain and simple…Buying traffic is a scam. Don't do it.

--->Don't Bother with Top Sites
These quickly become a big waste of your valuable time. (Remember, your time is valuable and time IS money.) Everyone else listed there with your site is doing the exact same thing you're doing. Let me guess, every day you are clicking on your link and voting for yourself and/or you are sending out tons of emails (possibly spam) begging all your friends to vote for you. Am I right? Don't waste your precious time doing this. Instead spend your time working on your ad copy. It'll take you much further.

--->Submitting Your Site Myths
You don't need to submit your site to search engines. Submitting your site to search engines does not increase your search engine rankings. The important search engines will index a properly built website.

--->Web Rings
Web Rings can be fun but, you very well could be sending your traffic AWAY from your site. You are giving your visitors the opportunity to click away to another site. You need to be concentrating keeping your visitors and selling your product or service. Besides that, a lot of people break the web rings. These rings are set up to be all about the same topics. You are giving your visitors direct links to your competitors.

--->Don't Spam Your Website
Some webmasters out there have decided to spam their own websites. How do they do this you ask? One way they do this is to place a lot of unrelated keywords into their meta tags and keywords. Another way is to make 'invisible text' on their website by making the text so small that it actually looks like a dot or period. Don't do this. This can easily get you banned from the search engines.

--->Do Not Participate in Link Farms
What exactly is a Link Farm? A link farm is list of links created and maintained solely for the purpose of constructing links between member sites. For example: One page of links is generated and to be listed on this page it is a requirement to place this page on your website. Search engines see this as an illegal move and can have you punished and banned from them. Please don't hesitate to investigate if you have a question about a particular program that you are involved with. It could save you tons later.

One thing that I frequently hear when referring to the above 'programs' is the following: "But, it's free, it's not going to hurt me." First of all, these aren't free. These are a waste of valuable time. As I mentioned Time IS Money and your time is precious. For every moment you are spending on these basically worthless ideas, you COULD be improving your traffic instead. Secondly, a few of the above mentioned are against search engine rules and could get you banned. That is a lot of hurting.

Increase Online Traffic

In my honest opinion Affiliate Marketing and Search Engine Optimization go hand-in-hand. I mean let's face it ... I don't care how great the product or service that you're promoting is. If you don't have visitors (traffic) coming to your website then you're not going to get any sales, right? Today I'd like to focus on increasing your online traffic.

Link Exchange
Exchange links with other sites that relate to yours. Look for other sites that could be of interest to your visitors. Avoid one of the most common mistakes of naming the filename of your link exchange page 'links'. This is one mistake that is often made and can save future problems from occurring. It is also a good idea to organize your link exchange page. Break the links down into categories such as Internet Marketing, Shopping, Business Opportunities and so on. You can also move in on the keywords that you're trying to rank with by using them in your link exchanges. An example of this would be if you were trying to rank high with the keywords scrapbooking at home you would use those words in your exchange.

Directory Listings

Website Design
There are a few details that you can add to each web page to help increase search engine traffic and in turn increase targeted traffic to your website.

1. Title tags Use your targeted keywords for the title. The HTML code for your title tags should look like the following:

2. Meta tags Again, you can use your keywords in the meta tags and describe each page within them. The HTML code for your meta tags should look like the following:

3. Alt Tags Use these to describe your pictures on your website. Two things happen when you use these. First search engines can't 'read' pictures so this gives the search engines text to read. Secondly, some visitors may have graphics turned off and instead of getting the dreaded red x they'll see the text. Alt tags for images should look like this:

Website Content
If you don't utilize any of the tips I've mentioned so far please make absolute sure you follow this. This is one of THE most important factors needed to increase online traffic. You must have quality content. I can't express exactly how important this is to the targeted traffic you receive. Make sure the content on each page is relevant to your site, to your title and meta tags and most importantly to your visitors. Don't have your title tag horses and make the site about dogs. If your site is about horses, make sure you write about horses. Search engines love text. The more quality text you have the better. Don't forget to have those keywords in your content!

Articles
This tip always makes everyone run and hide when they see it. It's not really as hard as you think. Hopefully, your website is something you know about. So, if you know about it; write about it. Article writing is your own little arsenal for back links. There are tons of places online that you can submit your articles to for free. There are also tons of people out there searching for free content. It's a win-win situation. They get the content and you get the exposure. Be sure to include a bio at the end of the article. Include your Web site URL in the bio. Make it a condition for free publication that the article appears with bio and business link. A bio is a short paragraph about you, your business and of course a link to your website. You can view an example bio at the end of this article. The good thing about article writing is that it establishes you as the expert and therefore increases the chances of people visiting your website.

Affiliate Tips: Avoiding the "Google Inferno"

In August, Google made yet another algorithm change, shaking the foundations of the content-based search marketing world. Search engine optimization (SEO) experts believe that this recent change stemmed directly from the over-saturation of duplicate content in Google's listings. As a result of the change, many affiliates who employ a combination of merchant datafeeds and generic SEO strategies to build content pages awoke to find that their previously high organic rankings had plummeted into what I like to call the "Google Inferno".

The "Google Inferno" is the final resting place for irrelevant search engine content, AKA "Results Page 20". In my opinion, affiliates end up in the "Google Inferno" when they fail to build relevant pages or sites. After all, affiliate marketing is a symbiotic relationship: Merchants provide affiliates with important marketing tools (creative, datafeeds, DRMs, etc.) with the understanding that affiliates will in turn deliver new and unique customers. In order to meet merchant expectations and drive sales, affiliates need to incorporate these merchant tools into their own original content, insight, and merchandising strategies.

Affiliates that understand the dynamics of this relationship likely rank favorably because their sites are rich with relevant information. Search engines fiercely compete with one another to provide the best and most pertinent search results on the planet. Therefore, they dutifully police the relationship between affiliates and merchants to ensure that the masses only see sites containing relevant content. Affiliates who employ generic SEO tactics to build duplicate pages fail to add value, and ultimately end up in the Inferno.

My number one piece of advice to affiliates is to focus on adding value, not only to the merchant and to the customer, but to the search engines as well. If you are either a fallen affiliate or just entering the SEO affiliate game, applying simple analytics and some elbow grease to your website may help you secure the ranking you desire.

What makes your promotions unique from the hundreds ... or even thousands of other affiliates pushing the same merchant's products and services?

Well ... nothing, if all you do is cut and paste the same merchant provided ad copy as everyone else, or just toss a bunch of links, banners, and buttons on your site.

What you must do is make yourself stand out ... grab the interest of your prospect, and qualify your offering to meet their needs.

Here's 5 quick tips to get the most out of your affiliate promotions.

1) Learn all about the product/service you're promoting.

The more you know about the object of your promotions, the more credible your promotional content. If you don't own the product, do your best to scour the merchant's site for info that you feel best explains the benefits of it, which leads to number ...

2) Write your own ad copy.

It's the credibility factor again ... you're selling yourself, establishing the bond between you and the prospect, in an effort to win their trust and interest. If you do own the product, or have access to it by permission of the merchant, write a detailed review. You can even use yourself as a case study to provide an eye witness account of the satisfaction potentially derived from using it. If not ... and in addition to your own accounts, list the testimonials of others.

3) Establish a line of communication with the merchant.

You might have to settle for the affiliate program manager, or a related department, but the idea is to try to acquire anything you can, above and beyond what is offered to regular affiliates, that will help you gain a promotional edge. Branded articles, ebooks, special offers, free trials, etc. You might even be able to gain access to the product or service you're promoting if you explain that you'd like to review it for promotional purposes (it can't hurt to ask ..

4) Build a sub list of targeted prospects.

Would you believe that I, personally, have built campaign designated email lists of less than 100 members, that have actually accounted for more sales than my main list ... that goes out to thousands of subscribers?

Why? Laser targeting, my friend.

Offer a campaign related update, course, report, or other form of freebie to attract them.

In addition, you'll now have a ready made list for future promotions made by the affiliate merchant.

5) Search engine optimize your promotional pages.

... for keywords and phrases relevant to your offerings, and run pay per click campaigns targeting the same and comparable terms. The search engines shouldn't, by any means, be your sole source of promotion (email, forum, offline marketing ... to name just a few methods) but they could potentially play an important part. I recommend investing in a course like
Brad Fallon and Andy Jenkin's 'Stomping The Search Engines' (http://im4newbies.com/stomping-search-engines.htm), which covers both SEO and PPC pretty extensively ... and effectively.

Work these 5 tips into your affiliate program promotions, and I'm sure you'll enjoy success.

You can then easily create your own categories or use the ones provided. In addition, you can customize all the colors, fonts and sizes to best match your existing website.

This is my favorite tool so far on this site. Here you’ll be able to create your Dynamic Feed. First of all you get to choose options on how you’d like it to look such as background, box width, border width, border color, number of listings displayed, whether or not you want to display the title, title, title color, whether or not you want to display the URL of the listing and of course your keyword phrase.

In the example I showed above, I chose the title Top Pay Per Click Programs (which makes it look less like ads and more like recommendations). I also chose pay per click programs for my keyword phrase.

In this second example http://www.mommyshelperonline.com/searchfeed-example.html#example3 I chose the title Top Work at Home Websites and work at home websites for the keyword phrase. To create this box I simply looked through the code found where the title and keywords were placed and replaced them with the new ones. This is a great little tip for those who are a bit more experienced (don’t have to be too much) with HTML.

Overall I’m impressed with SearchFeed.com and will most definitely be replacing some of my Adsense ads with these. I like the way the ads in the Dynamic Feed can be made to look more like recommendations than ads themselves. I believe this will increase my Click Thru Rate (CTR). I also like that you choose the keywords. Unlike some other sites that match the ads to your content on your page, which often they match up well but occasionally, they do not.

You don’t have to be an expert in programming or HTML for any of the examples I listed above. SearchFeed.com’s concept is simply answering questions and copying and pasting HTML codes into your websites. Their site was very easy for me to navigate. Everything is explained in easy to understand words and visual aids throughout the entire process.

This is a two-tiered program from which you can refer other affiliate marketers and advertisers to join and in turn receive a commission. Affiliate Link Hijackers

What are Affiliate Link Hijackers??

These are people who can steal your affiliate commission right out from under you! Most people purchase items through affiliate links and never give it another thought. Others sometimes aren't so nice.

"Link Hijackers" can do one of two things to steal your commission.

--->Sign up as an affiliate themselves and replace your affiliate link with theirs.
--->Find and delete your affiliate link completely.

Both these methods irritate me so much as I'm a "Give Credit where Credit is Due" kind of gal. This person spent the time reviewing the product/service or could have even spent money to adverise it. If someone I trusted recommended a product/service to me I'd be glad to give them click or sale for their effort.

So, as an affiliate marketer what can we do to protect our links?

One option is to hide the link in a page on your site that redirects visitors to your affiliate link using a simple java script. (Note: This also nice to use when writing articles or placing ezine ads.) Here's an example of a working redirected page: (All links will open new windows so you won't loose your place)

You'll notice at first that the above link is in your address bar. Then eventually the affiliate link shows up. The actual link is:

Notice, they both go to the same page but you can easily cut off my affiliate link portion of it and then I'd loose the commission. Not to mention, if you were writing an article or placing an ad in an ezine. Which link do you think would look better? You can get free java scripts almost anywhere. Do a quick search and you'll be sure to find one.

Another option would be to use TinyURL.com. With this option you simply mask the affiliate link and make it smaller. Using the same long URL above with TinyURL.com can give you a link that looks like this:

http://tinyurl.com/6bjex

Again, the URL is shorter but, when the new page comes up. Your affiliate link is again revealed. Leaving it as live bait for hijackers.

Now, one of the best options would be to use Affiliate Link Cloaker With this software you can both decrease the size of your URL and when the visitor arrives at your page through your link your affiliate link isn't revealed!

Upon approval from AffiliateFuel.com I received two welcome emails. The first one of course was from the company welcoming me and supplying me with my username, password, log in instructions, phone number and business hours. The second however, was my welcome email from own personal account manager! She was basically welcoming me and letting me know how to ‘fill up’ and start my campaigns. She mentioned a ‘tune up’ section where I can see a conversion table of the offers currently performing the best. My account manager even placed a personal note to let her know what types of offers work best on my site and she’ll be sure to point me in the right direction. Based on the welcome letter (which made me feel just that) alone…I’m looking forward to diving right into this site and find all there is to know!

Once I logged into my account the very first thing I see when I ‘drive in’ is “Hello, Anita! Your total revenue this month is $.00 Your total revenue today is $.00." (First of all I must say…I can’t wait to increase those totals!) I thought this was a nice touch. I liked the fact that all I had to do was log right into my account and see quickly exactly where I stood. Not too much searching just to find out if I can expect a check or not ;)

“Fill Up Station”
Here I found basically what I would call a search engine device to find exactly the right programs for me. First there was a link to “All Offers” and “Top Email Offers”. Then a more categorized listing to choose from. Categories included the following:

As you can tell from above, AffiliateFuel.com is a program offering pay per click, lead and sale programs. They obviously have lots of options for you to choose the right program for your campaign. They have an extensive glossary to help those who need/want to know the difference between CPC and CTR. (Nice feature!) Their website says that it can take up to 10 days to be approved to become an affiliate, however, I applied on Friday and was accepted on Monday. AffiliateFuel.com’s payment terms are officially NET 60 however; on an average they pay NET 30. Lead stats are updated hourly and click stats are updated every four hours. Occasionally they will hold special lead offers delaying stat times. These delays are posted in the ‘fill up’ station. You can add up to 100 of your own additional sites to your account. However, the additional sites will also have to be reviewed and meet their standards also.

AffiliateFuel.com is also a two-tiered program with nice benefits. By referring other webmasters/affiliates to join as publishers you will receive 5% commission based on the referrals commissions and a flat bounty of $2.00 per referral.

Overall I am highly impressed with everything about AffiliateFuel.com. They’re site is easily navigated, tons of details and everything is written out in ‘beginner terms’ so that virtually anyone can understand. Commission rates seem very reasonable and I’m looking forward to being an active publisher of AffiliateFuel.com!

My site was reviewed and approved within a few hours by a Leadhound.com representative. So far I have been completely impressed with the way their website works. I received very detailed instructions on how to log into my account and start my campaigns. Once I logged into their site it was very easy to navigate with excellent instructions on what to do next. (Great for beginners!)

Once you’ve logged into your account you find a list of programs available and recommended for your site. I personally thought this was a nice feature to make the whole process simpler. I’ve found myself before with almost too many options taking way to much time to find the ‘right’ ones. The recommended programs are all listed in two charts. The first chart displays the campaigns that are considered “highest priority” and the second displays “normal priority”. The highest lists the campaigns that best fit using the information you fill out when applying to be an affiliate. The normal lists others that also fit but not quite as well as the highest.

Each chart displays the Campaign Name, Pay Per Click/Lead/Sale/Impression and when the program expires. From there you’ll be able to click on details for any of the programs that interest you. By doing this you’ll find the details broken down even more to list all of the above plus a description, cookie life, campaign content and available banners, buttons and text. Here you will be able to subscribe to the campaign.

By subscribing you will not only be shown again the available buttons, banners and text ads but also tips to help you get more exposure and ways to utilize each particular campaign. (A++ feature!)

Another bonus feature is to be able to track individual campaigns hosted by your sub-affiliates! If you prefer you can also ‘hand-pick’ other programs available with a search of either by categories or keywords.

Leadhound.com is also a two-tiered program with some impressive benefits. As a Leadhound.com affiliate you are able to refer other merchants/affiliate marketers to the program and earn the following an extra 5% monthly bonus as an ‘over-rider’ from the revenue made from other affiliates/merchants plus and extra $5 once the affiliate has reached a commission of $50.00

You’ll also receive real time detailed stats to track all your campaigns displaying unique/non-unique impressions, unique/non-unique clicks, leads, sales, commission from affiliates and commissions from vendors.
Leadhound.com pays on a monthly basis including a detailed statement of your earnings. You must earn a minimum of $50 to receive payment. Earnings under $50 will be rolled over to the following month.

Overall I am very impressed with Leadhound.com. I would recommend this program to anyone even beginners.

ClickThruTraffic.com is a pay per click program. I was pretty much immediately accepted for this program. I received a welcome email as soon as I signed up for this program. This basically tells me that there was absolutely no search on my validity. Honestly, I don’t like to wait to be ‘approved’, but speaking from someone who could be an advertiser. I think I’d like these kinds of things checked into. Here's what my findings from a review of ClickThruTraffic.com.

ClickThruTraffic.com offers 17 different categories for you to choose from such as: (pay out per click in parenthesis)

Nor do we allow e-mail links/ICQ/InstantMessage/spamming or any other such practices that could reflect negatively on our program.”

Affiliate links will send visitors either to a targeted advertiser or to a search engine results page that is targeted to the advertisement. No popup window or exit console will appear.

This program is also a two-tiered program. You can refer other webmasters to join and receive 5% referral commission.

You must have a minimum earnings of $25.00 to receive a check. Any earnings under minimum will be rolled over to the following pay period.

Pay Per Lead/Click

Over the next few days I'm going to dive in on some major research. I'm going to be reviewing a multitude of Pay Per Lead and Pay Per Click Programs.

Pay Per Click Programs
Of course this is basically just how it sounds. You get paid a commission for every ad that you place that gets clicked on. Commissions vary from ad to ad and from program to program. Usually, these ads are bid on by advertisers to pay a price per click to affiliates.

Pay Per Lead Programs
This is where an affiliate would get paid for every lead they generate. For example some programs you as an affiliate would be able to offer free samples. You would get a commission for each person you refer to the free samples. Another example would be just for you as an affiliate to refer others to fill out forms for more information. Again you would recieve a commission for each form filled out.

In my opinion ClickBank is one of the easiest programs to form your links. You simply use the link that they provide and replace XXXX with your ClickBank ID. ClickBank has over 10,000 digital products in their ClickBank Market Place. Each product lists the exact percentage per sale you would make.

One downfall that I would like to note on is the lack of tracking stats. I personally like to see exactly how many 'clicks' I recieved when and where from. Despite their lack of tracking many, many people (including myself) still use ClickBank.

CBClick.com is a new and simpler way to utilize your ClickBank ID. To display ads they utilize Clickbank's® Marketplace. These ads are ranked in order to what sells best. So you are always showing top quality, high converting products and websites. The ads are targeted by you using a "keyword". You choose the "keyword" which best relates to the products and services on your website. CBClicks is a free program to join. You can listen to an audio introduction of this program and join at CBClicks.com

CBClicks has been named the "alternative to Google Adsense". In my opinion you can't really compare them because unlike Google Adsense, CBClicks is a pay per sale program as Adsense is a pay per click program.

I will however, describe CBClicks as an alternative way to use your ClickBank ID. Sometimes it can be a little time consuming and difficult to search Click Bank's Marketplace for the right product. Using this program will make that a bit easier because they choose the product based on the keywords you choose.

On the flip side CBClick ads look very similar to Adsense ads without the term "Ads" displayed. CBClicks gives you lots of ways to adjust the way your ads will display giving you much more control.

Just a couple of little tips for successful affiliate marketing...

--->Writing articles with worthwhile informational content is an excellent strategy for successful marketing. Make sure that your article contains useful information that targets your audience and doesn't sound like a sales copy or ad.

--->Studies have shown that banner ads are not the best strategy and that visitors actually avoid them. If you must use them make sure they're used sparingly and well placed. Do not place a banner on the same page as your article. Placing a banner on the same page as your article can very quickly turn your well-written article into nothing but a huge ad.
